The Beauty Of Pregnancy | Maternity Photography Seattle

Still catching up from 2015, but better late than never right? This mama and I were introduced through a mutual friend who moved to Seattle from New Mexico about the same time as me. So, we are both from New Mexico living in Seattle and we are both Seattle photographers and we are both nurses!! Neonatal to be exact. So as you can see we have a lot in common. I have had the pleasure of capturing her sweet family many times, even when I really had no idea what I was doing with my camera. But, as you can see, they are absolutely gorgeous and make my job pretty effortless.

We met on a somewhat temperamental day in August. The sky was full of moody clouds and there wasn't very much sun. But, the sun broke out just at the end at was absolutely magical. But what really stole the show was their love and connection. They played, the snuggled, and they exuded joy. I love how much they laughed together when we talked about how much different life was about to be.

Their baby is six months old now and a girl. I am so thrilled they have these memories of their family right before it changed.

Enjoy this beautiful family. May they bring a little sunshine to your Monday.

This is going to be a first for me. I have never only shared black and white images but for some reason this session speaks louder to me in black and white. While I give every family both color and black and white versions of their images, sometimes the black and white hold more emotion. Being a newborn photographer in Seattle, I have to be able to embrace low and moody light. I have found that this type of light really adds to the deep emotion that is present during the newborn  stage in a family's life. There are so many emotions  present when you have a newborn at home. There is excitement and promise but there is also exhaustion and even a bit of sadness. What I want the families who choose me to photograph them to remember is that it is all beautiful in all of its imperfections. I want them to remember what it felt like to hold that tiny baby in their arms and nuzzle into their soft head. I want them to be reminded of a time that they will never be able to get back however life changing it was. A time that will all seem like a dream in a few years time. I want them to look at their images and feel all of the emotions that they felt when they had their newborn in their arms whether they were good or bad. Life is fleeting and  and you will never understand just how fast everything goes until you have a child.

Baby Lorna, you are so loved.

Fine Art School Portraits Seattle | Seattle Family Photographer

To say I wanted to blog one million photos would be an understatement. This preschool was full of beautiful children who each had so much personality. They were patient, friendly, and so much fun! I decided to include a color and black and white version of each of the kiddos who's parents signed my release.

In the past four years I have photographed thousands of kiddos and each is unique. School photography can be so much more than a stiff and awkward photo. It can have life and meaning. Nothing pleases me more than hearing a parent say that I was able to capture the true personality of their kiddo. How do I do it? I simply let them be who they are. I don't ask them to put their hands in their pockets or sit a certain way. We just hang out for a few minutes and I snap away.

While I am booked for schools with 500 or more kiddos, I am alway more than happy to take on more small schools. If you have questions, you can check out my SCHOOLS page. Most frequently asked questions about school photography in Seattle can be found there. I am willing to travel to the East Side and surrounding areas as well.

I am excited to have my first every School Photography Workshop open for enrollment online. So much progress is boing made in the workshop. The students are knocking my socks off.

Now enjoy these sweet faces. I had a huge smile on my face when I prepared this blog post. Seattle has some of the cutest kids in the world!

Seattle Newborn Photography Workshop | Seattle Newborn Photographer

Last month I hosted my very first in person photography workshop. My hope was to connect with other photographers and help them find meaning and direction in their family photography. Together, we photographed a newborn family and a family in Pioneer Square in Seattle. It is so rewarding to help others along in their photography journey.

This little family was the best newborn family we could have asked for. They were so patient and the baby was an absolute dream. She was curious about all the photographers in her face but she tolerated us.

I enjoyed connecting with such a wonderful group of women and sharing my style of photography. I look forward to more photography workshops where I can share my love and passion for family photography. I will be sharing the family shoot later this week.

Pike Place Market Photo Shoot | Seattle Family Photographer

I have been so fortunate to photograph many other photographers but this one holds a special place in my heart. Melissa and I went out on a limb and met at wppi nearly five years ago. We were both  looking to expand our business and our craft. We immediately became best friends and capturing her family is such an honor. We met on this very stormy day at the Seattle Pike Place Market. we wandered through all the nooks and crannies and found some magic along the way. We explored Shadows and Light and didn't let a little bit of rain get in our way. Enjoy this beautiful family!

Family photography should be fun and a true representation of who your family is right now. Nothing forced or fake. just authentic love and connection. I look forward to all of the families I have coming up this year.
